As a result of their meeting today, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) has released the proposed images for the upcoming Steve Gleason Congressional Gold Medal. These recommended proposals were released along side the Anwar El Sadat images that CCAC also is considering.

In all, there are 10 Obverses and 10 Reverses being considered in honor of former NFL player Steve Gleason. Gleason is best known for a blocked punt in 2006 while playing for the New Orleans Saints, a block that came shortly after Hurricane Katrina and became symbol of recovery as it happened in the Saint’s first home game after the hurricane. In 2011, Gleason revealed he is battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS. There is no known cure for ALS.

You can view all of the proposed Obverses and Reverses on the Mint’s site but below is one of the proposed Obverses.

The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) was established in 2003 by Congress under Public Law 108-15 to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on the themes and designs of all U.S. coins and medals. The CCAC serves as an informed, experienced and impartial resource to the Secretary of the Treasury and represents the interests of American citizens and collectors.
