After being delayed a week and a few false starts with erroneous emails about its release, the United States Mint has finally released the 2019-W American Eagle Palladium bullion coin. Minted from .999 pure Palladium, the coin is available for $1,980.50 directly from the United States Mint.
The one ounce coin comes in a Reverse Proof finish and will have a production limit of only 30,000 coins. Like the 2017 and 2018 variants on this bullion coin, the 2019-W is expected to go fast. It will be in this week’s Mint production report and it is likely that a majority of the 30,000 of them will already be sold.
This particular series of bullion coins started in 2017 with an uncirculated version that year. It was followed in 2018 with the proof version and this year, for the first time, the Palladium coin will be offered in Reverse Proof.
The Obverse of the coin features the Mercury Dime design of Adolph A. Weinman, albeit in high-relief. The Reverse features a high-relief version of the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal. It was also designed by Weinman. Those two designs have been some of the most popular in the history of the United States Mint which has added to the popularity of this bullion coin.
When purchased, it will come in a gray leatherette presentation case with satin lining. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
At the time of this writing, the coin was still available on the Mint’s site. If you are looking for an investment coin, this one is a great option.
