Happy New Year! Welcome to 2020 and the first day of a new decade. I truly hope that this year is one of the best ever for you – and your coin collection!

As we ring in the new year, it is always a good time to reflect on the previous year. That is certainly true for me personal as well as for this site. There were particular highs and a few lows in 2019 but I could not be more excited about what 2020 holds for the site and my interactions with all of you.

First, some numbers that some of you may (or may not) be interested in with regards to USCoinNews.com in 2019.

For all of this, I thank you, the reader of USCoinNews.com. When I started this site, my goal was to provide information to the everyday collector. Indeed, my mission statement is the first paragraph on the About page.

US Coin News was founded in May 2019 and it is aimed at the casual United States Coin Collector. The focus of the site is to bring news, tips, tricks and information to help collectors who are starting out or seasoned collectors. Generally speaking, there won’t be many posts about ultra rare coins or high priced auction coins. Rather, our focus is on those who enjoy the hobby, for the hobby and not necessarily for investments.

Hopefully I have achieved that goal. Hopefully you find the information and news here helpful, as well as the Coin History series and the increasingly popular Mail Bag articles. Based on the numbers above, I think so.

Looking to 2020, my core objective remains the same but there are other goals I’d like to achieve with the site. First, my primary objective for the new year is to be more consistent in posting. As some readers know (or may have figured out on their own), the site is my “side gig”. My “day job” is doing business development for a Silicon Valley company. That means I’m on the road – a lot. That travel digs into my time to research and write for the site as well as managing my own coin collection. While I do not expect a change in my travel habits, I have devised (I think) a way to assure I’m more consistent with posting. You’ll be the judge of that but that is my goal.

Second, my goal is to increase revenue to the site. Generally speaking, the site costs about $70 a month all-in to run. Revenue, generated from adverts and Today’s Deal purchases by you equal about $30 a month. So yeah, I’m losing money each month. But honestly, for the site’s first year, that was expected. In 2020, my goal is to break even. That means you will see more Today’s Deal articles and, hopefully, it will encourage you to make a purchase. Put it this way: If 4 more readers buy something through those posts each month, I would likely break even. I have also been working with some coin dealers and services about advertising full time on the site and getting you discounts on those services. Nothing is firm yet but close.

Ultimately you, the reader of this site, is why I do the work (I’m writing this at 6:00 AM on December 31st prior to starting the day job) to make this site the best it can be. There is certainly room for growth and I’m looking forward to 2020 to see how that happens. It’s going to be exciting!

For now, thank you. Thank you for reading. Thank you for commenting. Thank you for sending emails and asking questions. Thank you for clicking ads and buying things on Today’s Deal. Thank You!

To everyone, my very best to you in 2020. May it be a remarkable year for you – and your collection!
