The United States Mint has released its February 2020 Mint Production Report, showing that just over one billion coins was produced for circulation in the month. In total, 1.094 billion coins were made in the month at the Denver and Philadelphia Mint locations.

608 million Lincoln Cent were produced across both facilities in February, each producing 304 million each. That bumps the total Cent production for 2020 to 1.276 billion coins. It also reflects a slight drop in production for both the Denver and Philadelphia Mints month-over-month.

Production for the Jefferson Nickel also dropped month-over-month at both the Denver and Philadelphia Mints. A total of 91.2 million Nickels were produced in February, down from the 126.72 million produced in January. The Denver Mint produced 50.16 million Nickels in February while in Philadelphia, 41.04 million were made. That puts the total Jefferson Nickel production for the year at 217.92 million coins.

The Roosevelt Dime had a mintage of 142.5 million coins in February, 76 million in Denver and the remaining 66.5 million in Philadelphia. That puts the total production for 2020 at 316 million Dimes. February saw a drop in production when compared month-over-month to January 2020.

The Washington Quarter saw nearly the same number of coins minted in February as it did in January. In the second month of the year, 250.8 million Quarters were produced, 125.4 million across both the Denver and Philadelphia Mints. That is just slightly down from the 255 million produced in January and puts the 2020 total production at 505.8 million Quarters.

The Kennedy Half Dollar, like it was in January, saw 1.8 million of the coins produced last month. All of them were produced in Philadelphia, the exact opposite of January where all were produced in Denver. Remember that while the Kennedy Half Dollar is reported as a circulation coins, they are not released into circulation to the general public.

For February, there were no Native American or Presidential Dollar coins produced.

All-in, the Mint has produced 2.322 (2,322,380,000) billion coins in 2020 in the first two months. Traditionally, the first quarter of each year is the highest production months for the year so expect to see another “billion coin month” when the March report is released next month.
