2020 American Eagle Gold Proofs Sales Start Strong

Sales of the 2020 American Eagle gold proofs have started off strong. The United States Mint reported that some 14,925 of the gold proofs were sold in the first 24 hours of availability. That number includes all denominations of the coins.

Here is a breakdown of the coin sales by size:

The strong start to sales is not surprising for a couple of reasons. First, with the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic raging across the world, many investors are looking for a more stable investment than the turbulent stock market. Second, gold, while it has fluctuated some, has been more stable (It is up $73.90 at the time of this posting today). Even with the premium the Mint puts on these coins, many are seeing them as a solid, long term investment.
