NGC Announces Special Designations & Labels for The Christa McAuliffe Commemorative

NGC has issued a Press Release announcing the availability of special designations and labels for the 2021 Christa McAuliffe Commemorative Silver Dollar. The coin, which is available for pre-order from the United States Mint, will begin shipping on March 17, 2021. The Christa McAuliffe Commemorative is available in Proof and Uncirculated finishes from the United States Mint.

On January 28, 2021, the US Mint is releasing two silver dollars as a tribute to Christa McAuliffe, the dedicated teacher who tragically lost her life in the Challenger tragedy 35 years ago. Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is honoring the release of the 2021-P Christa McAuliffe Uncirculated Silver Dollar and the 2021-P Christa McAuliffe Proof Silver Dollar by offering the NGC Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) special label to all submitters.

Coins received by NGC within the first 30 days of their release are also eligible for NGC’s popular Early Releases and First Releases designations and labels.

The coins’ obverse design features a sensitive and highly detailed portrait of Christa McAuliffe, while the reverse shows McAuliffe pointing upward toward the sky as three students follow her instruction. The inscription above says, “I TOUCH THE FUTURE. I TEACH.”

All Christa McAuliffe coins submitted will be certified with the NGC ASF special label for an additional $5 fee. Each year, the ASF awards scholarships to college students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A royalty will be paid to the ASF by NGC for each label used.
