United States Mint Circulating Coins Production – February 2021

The United States Mint has updated its monthly Circulating Coins Production report to include production numbers for February 2021. Overall, the Mint produced 1,163,400,000 coins for circulation across the Denver and Philadelphia facilities. This is up from the 919,520,000 coins that the Mint pressed in January 2021.

The February 2021 report reflects that the Lincoln Cent was the highest produced coin for circulation in the month. The Denver and Philadelphia Mint locations produced 532,800,000 Cents in February – 342,800,000 in Denver and the remaining 190,000,000 in Philadelphia. This is a significant increase of 39% over production in January. Indeed, the Denver Mint nearly produced as many Lincoln Cents in February as the Mint did entirely in January when 383,200,000 of the coins were minted. For the year, 916,000,000 Cents have been produced for circulation.

The Jefferson Nickel also enjoyed an increase in production. 164,700,000 5-Cent pieces were produced in February. Of those, the production was split almost evenly across the Denver facility (82.6 million) and the Philadelphia facility (82.1 million). The production total represents a modest 8.9% increase in production over January’s report. For 2021 thus far, 315,900,000 Jefferson Nickels have been minted for circulation.

288,500,000 Roosevelt Dimes were produced in February for circulation. 143.5 million of the 10-Cent pieces were pressed in Denver while the remaining 145 million were produced in Philadelphia. The production total represented a small 6.9% increase over the January total of 270,000,000. For 2021, 558,500,000 Roosevelt Dimes have been produced by the United States Mint.

The Washington Quarter saw a significant increase in production last month over January. 175,800,000 Quarters were produced in the month, 114 million of which came from Denver. The remaining 61.8 million were produced in Philadelphia. The figures represent a 56% increase month-over-month in Quarter Dollar production. All in, there have now been 288,400,000 Washington Quarters produced in 2021.

Finally, the Mint produced 1.6 million Kennedy Half Dollars in the month, the first production of the coins in 2021. All of the coins were produced at the Denver Mint. For February, there were no Native American or Presidential Dollar coins produced.

For February 2021, the Mint produced 1,163,400,000 coins for circulation, representing a 26.5% increase over production in the previous month. For the year, 2,082,920,000 coins have been made by the United States Mint. This is just slightly behind the 2,322,380,000 that the Mint had produced through February 2020.
