First Look! 2021-W American Liberty High Relief Gold Proof Coin

The United States Mint has released the official, high resolution images of the upcoming 2021-W American Liberty High Relief Gold Proof Coin. The 24-karat one ounce gold coin is a significant departure in design from the previous coins in the series, aimed at highlighting modern interpretations of the concept of American Liberty.

The Obverse features a wild American Mustang horse, bucking off a western-style saddle, evoking the throwing off of the yoke of British rule during the American Revolution. The Reverse features a stunning close up view of an Eagle.

When compared to previous coins in the American Liberty program, the 2021 coin is a significant shift in the interpretation of “American Liberty”.

This year’s American Liberty coin will go on sale on August 19, 2021. Just 12,500 of the coins will be made available and the Mint has set a household limit of one coin. This coin is considered one of the truly special and limited coins produced by the Mint each year. The Mint has not established a price for the coin yet but you can expect it to carry a heavy premium given its limited production and the extra efforts the Mint goes through to make this high relief coin. All of this will not discourage buyers of this coin. While a sell out on August 19th is certainly possible, it will likely take a week or two for all of them to be sold.

You can get more details on the coin on its product page on the Mint’s site.
