The American Numismatic Society (ANS) has sent letters to members that its New York offices are now open to visitors. The ANS offices, located at 75 Varick Street in New York, have been closed to visitors since March of last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After the offices reopened earlier this year to staff only, visitors can now make appointments to visit with restrictions in place.
To schedule a visit, members must call or email the Society at 212-571-4470, Extension 117 or membership@numismatics.org. Visits are by appointment only. Further, all visitors are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is in compliance with New York City’s public indoor spaces policies.
Members of the Society are encourage to reach out to ANS staff who can also assist with digital and online requests, with significant investments and improvements in capabilities to support members, especially those who are not in the area.
The American Numismatic Society is dedicated to the study and public appreciation of coins, currencies, medals, and other related objects. Since its founding in 1858, the ANS has assembled a permanent collection with over 800,000 objects dating from 2000 BCE to the present and numismatic library, which houses approximately 100,000 books, documents, and artifacts. These resources are used to support publications of books and periodicals, lectures, academic seminars, and exhibitions.
