The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic product sales report for the week ending August 29, 2021. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. The report shows that the Mint sold just 2,847 products this past week. There were a high number of returns – both customer cancellations and the Mint cancelling overages on products – that contributed to the small net sales number. For 2021, the Mint has now sold 9,766,967 numismatics products.
The top selling product for the United States Mint last week was the 2021 Proof Set. The standard annual set saw 2,426 sets sold in the past week, pushing its total sales to 338,810. That pushes this year’s set to within 100,000 sets of matching last year’s Proof Set sales. That set sold 465,081 times in 2020. Another annual set, the 2021 Silver Proof Set, was the second top seller last week. 1,115 of the premium Proof Sets were purchases last week. For the year, sales of the set have now reached 223,707, also within shouting distance of passing last year’s 313,246 Silver Proof Set sales.
The United States Coast Guard 2.5 Ounce Silver Medal rounded out the top three in sales with another 530 of the medals sold last week. That puts total sales at 8,743. Meanwhile another annual set, the 2021 Birth Set, was the fourth top seller with 291 sets sold while the Christa McAuliffe Proof Silver Dollar rounded out the top five in sales with 274 coins sold.
