The United States Mint has announced the end of American Eagle bullion coin product for 2021. The final production of 2021 dated Eagles, both gold and silver, have been completed and production of 2022 dated Eagle bullion coins has begun. Final allocations to Authorized Purchasers have also been made for the 2021 dated coins.

The allocations of American Eagle Gold Bullion coins to Authorized Purchasers come with the stipulation that their purchase commitments must be completed by the end of the calendar year. Likewise, sales of 2021 dated American Eagle gold coins can continue until the end of the calendar year.

Additionally, the Mint will make a final allocation of 2021 dated silver American Eagle coins on Monday, November 29th. After the 29th, no additional silver Eagles will be issued.

The ending of production comes slightly earlier than the end of production in 2020. Authorized Purchasers where informed on December 8, 2020 of last year’s end of production.

The United States Mint, like other world mints, does not sell its bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, we distribute the coins through a network of official distributors called “authorized purchasers” who, in turn, create a two-way market buying and selling to precious metal wholesalers as well as private investors.

What the end of production means is that, once the Authorized Purchasers have made their final purchases from the Mint and sell out their inventory, no more will be available. Collectors would need to look to the secondary market to pick up a bullion Eagle.

As for the 2022 American Eagle coins, those will be made available to the Authorized Purchasers network on Monday, January 3, 2022.
