The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) has released the candidate images for the 2023 American Liberty High Relief 24-karat gold coin and silver medal. The images were released by CCAC and the United States Mint after the scheduled meeting yesterday for the committee. In total, there are 68 images for the Obverse and Reverse of both the gold coin and silver medal that were released.
The United States Mint American Liberty Program celebrates modern renditions of the iconic Liberty that embody the ideals of freedom and equality first set forth in our Declaration of Independence. In the 227 years since its establishment, the United States Mint has issued a vast array of medals with the concept of Liberty personified by allegorical female figures. More than two centuries of evolution have borne witness to an ever-changing symbol. Today’s American Liberty Medals are reinvigorating this motif with stunning, modern depictions of the allegorical Lady Liberty. Their images maintain our Nation’s intimate connection with its history and founding principles, while at the same time recognizing our forward-looking, diverse and dynamic population and culture.

Here are all of the designs that are being considered, which are diverse in designs.
Over the course of the next several months, CCAC will review the designs and select the Obverse and Reverse. That selection will also be reviewed by the Commission of Fine Arts before being sent to the Mint as the final proposed design. This process will likely take through the Summer of this year with winning design expected to be released sometime in the Fall.
ABOUT THE CCAC
In accordance with 31 U.S.C. 5135, the CCAC:
- Advises the Secretary of the Treasury on any theme or design proposals relating to circulating coinage, bullion coinage, Congressional Gold Medals, and national and other medals.
- Advises the Secretary of the Treasury with regards to the events, persons, or places to be commemorated by the issuance of commemorative coins in each of the five calendar years succeeding the year in which a commemorative coin designation is made.
- Makes recommendations with respect to the mintage level for any commemorative coin recommended.
The CCAC was established in 2003 by Congress under Public Law 108-15.
