United States Mint Circulating Coinage Production Report – February 2022

The United States Mint has released its Circulating Coin Production Report for February 2022. The report shows that the Mint produced 1,260,120,000 coins for circulation last month, up slightly from the 1.249 billion produced in January 2022. Other than the Lincoln Cent, all other circulation denominations had increases in production month-over-month in February 2022.

For the Lincoln Cent, the Mint reported that 694 million coins were produced last month. Breaking that down further, the Denver Mint produced 356.4 million of the One Cent pieces while the Philadelphia Mint contributed 337.6 million. The February production number is down slightly from the 748 million Cents that were produced in January. For the first two months of 2022, the Mint has now produced 1.442 billion Lincoln Cents for circulation.

The Jefferson Nickel saw an increase in production month-over-month with 142.32 million Five Cent pieces being made in February. The Denver Mint produced the most Nickels last month with 73.92 million produced while the Philadelphia Mint produced the remaining 68.4 million. The February mintage total for Jefferson Nickels is up slightly from the 115.68 million that the Mint produced in January. For the year, there have now been 258 million Nickels minted for circulation.

Turning to the Roosevelt Dime, the Mint reported that 234 million were produced in February 2022. Of those, 120 million were produced in Denver and 114 million in Philadelphia. The overall mintage number for the month is higher than the 202 million that were produced in January 2022 with a total production for the year now at 436 million.

The last coin to have reported production last month as the Washington Quarter. The Mint reported that it produced 189.8 million Quarters for the month. This is the total production of all Quarters and does not give any further breakdown on the design produced. As readers know, there will be five unique Reverse designs for the Quarter in 2022 as part of the American Women Quarter Program. Of the 189.8 million Quarters produced, 97.8 million were minted in Denver and the remaining 92 million in Philadelphia. All-in, the Mint has now produced 368.8 million Quarters for circulation.

The Mint reported that no Kennedy Half Dollar, Native American Dollar, or Presidential Dollar coins were produced last month.

For the year, the United States Mint has now produced 2,509,960,000. This is roughly one-half billion more coins that the Mint had produced through February last year. That total was 2,082,920,000.
