The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report for American Eagle and American Buffalo bullion coins. This summary report provides sales details through Sunday, May 22, 2022. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week and is different than the weekly numismatic product report. During the previous week, the Mint reported sales of 507,000 bullion coins. This is down slightly from the 533,000 bullion coins reported sold in the May 8th report, the last time the report was updated by the Mint. According to the Mint’s report, all but the smallest gold American Eagle and the platinum Eagle had sales in the past week.

The top selling bullion product for the Mint last week was the silver, one-ounce American Eagle. According to the report, the Mint sold 425,000 of the coins to Authorized Purchasers in the previous seven days. That puts total sales for the silver Eagle at 9.281 million for 2022. This sales total is down significantly from the Mint’s billion sales this time last year. By May 2021, the Mint had sold over 13 million silver Eagles to Purchasers. This significant drop is likely due to a number of factors including inflation pressure and the limited amount of bullion the Mint currently has available.

Turning to the gold American Eagle coins, the top seller was the one-ounce coin with 57,000 coins sold. That pushed sales totals for 2022 over the half-million mark to 523,500. For reference, this sales total through to this week is up by nearly 100,000 coins over this time last year. Through May 2021, the Mint had sold 429,000 one-ounce gold Eagles. Additionally, the Mint reported that 1,000 of the 1/2-ounce gold Eagles were sold last week as well at 4,000 1/25th-ounce coins. The Mint indicates that in the past week, none of the 1/10th-ounce gold Eagles nor the one-ounce platinum Eagle had sales to Authorized Purchasers.

Finally, the American Buffalo one-ounce gold coin enjoyed a strong week of sales, adding 20,000 coins to its total sales for 2022. The Buffalo now has had a reported 218,500 coins sold for the year, up from the 166,000 the Mint had reported sold by the end of May 2021.
