First Look! 2023 American Liberty Gold Coin and Silver Medal

The United States Mint has released the first images of the upcoming 2023 American Liberty high-relief gold coin and silver medal. The gold coin and silver medal will be released later this year. Like previous American Liberty coins and medals, the two will share a common Obverse and Reverse, although the gold coin will be struck in high relief. The gold coin will also have a reeded edge, while the silver medal will have a plain edge.

The Obverse design features a bristlecone pine, considered one of Earth’s oldest living organisms, and able to live up to 5,000 years. The tree grows where other plants cannot and are often the first to grow in the land after dramatic changes. It was created by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Elana Hagler and sculpted by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna.

The Reverse of the coin and medal features a bald eagle standing on a rocky outcrop.

The high-relief gold coin will be minted at West Point and carry the W Mint Mark. Meanwhile, the silver medal will be produced in Philadelphia and will bare the P Mint Mark.

According to the Mint’s production schedule, the 2023 American Liberty gold coin and silver medal will be released this summer, although a specific release date has not been provided. The gold coin will be priced based on the spot price of gold at its release. The silver medal will be priced at $82.
