After going on sale earlier today, all indications are that the Pride of Two Nations coins set of the United States Mint and the Royal Canadian Mint are sold out. In total, there were 110,000 of the sets available, 10,000 of which were available in Canada. At 6:30 PM Mountain time, the US Mint site indicated the sets were on “back order”. That’s their friendly way of saying they are not available.
Unless some returns happen, the sets are likely gone and collectors will now have to go through local coin ships, Amazon or eBay to pick up the set – at a substantial premium.
The set contained a 2019-W in an enhanced reverse proof finish as well as a Royal Canadian Mint 2019 Silver Maple Leaf in a modified proof finish. Both coins are .999 pure silver.
The sell out is certainly good news for the Mint and having a same day sell out with household restrictions is a solid indicator of interest in the set. As I posted earlier today, it has taken nearly 3 months for the American Legion set to sell out.
I was fortunate enough to pick up one of the set when sales started at Noon Eastern Today. The plan once they are receive is to get them to NGC for grading and special designations.
If you did not pick one up, continue to check the US Mint site. It is possible a return or two will happen and you could potentially pick a set up.
