The 2020 American Buffalo gold bullion coin is set to go on sale next week directly from the United States Mint. Sales will be begin Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific. Pricing has yet to be announced but you can find the coin here on the Mint’s site.
The West Point minted 24-karat gold coin features designs based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel designed by James Earle Fraser. It has a $50 face value and is made of 99.999% pure gold. The coin was introduced in 2006 and has become one of the more popular bullion coins from the Mint, in large part to the popular Buffalo nickel design.
The coin will come in a maroon case with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Mint. As with previous years, there is no production or mintage limit on the coin, nor is there a household limit. That means they should remain available throughout 2020.
That said, with the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, precious metals like gold have seen a sharp rise in sales. It is possible that availability will be limited after the initial release due to limited Mint production currently happening. It is advised that if you want to get one of these coins for your collection or as part of your investment portfolio that you use the Remind Me feature on the Mint’s product page to assure you get a reminder on April 9th.
