One of the last Numismatic products from the United States Mint, at least for now, goes on sale today. The 2020 American Buffalo Proof one ounce gold coin will be available starting at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific. The 24-karat coin is priced at $2315.00.
Details about the coin and purchasing of it can be found on the product page on the Mint’s site.
The West Point minted 24-karat gold coin features designs based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel designed by James Earle Fraser. It has a $50 face value and is made of 99.999% pure gold. The coin was introduced in 2006 and has become one of the more popular bullion coins from the Mint, in large part to the popular Buffalo nickel design.
The coin will come in a maroon case with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Mint. As with previous years, there is no production or mintage limit on the coin, nor is there a household limit. That means they should remain available throughout 2020.
To date, the United States Mint has not indicated if there is a limited supply of these coins. However, with the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) impacting the Mint’s ability to produce Numismatic products, it is possible that at least initially there will be some scarcity on this year’s American Buffalo. Couple that with the spike in bullion sales in general as investors look to precious metals to bolster portfolios, and we could see these coins sell out quickly. If you are wanting to add on to your collection or investments, it is recommended you purchase today as soon as they are available.
