NCIC Reports Multiple Coins Missing or Stolen in an Express Mail Package

The Numismatic Crime Information Center (NCIC) is reported a missing or stolen Express Mail package that contained multiple graded coins. The package was being shipped from Virginia to New Jersey. It was shipped on August 28, 2020 and the package arrived at the Virginia Distribution Center for the United States Postal Service the following day. However, since then, the Express Mail package has not being located or had any movement.

In the Express Mail package were the following coins:

  • 1798 Draped Bust 1c PCGS AU54 S-185, 2nd Hair. Cert #320346002.
  • 1864 Two Cent PCGS MS64 BN LM RPD FS-1304. Cert #40457393.
  • 1853-O Seated 50c PCGS AU50 toned Cert #404517414.
  • 1861-O Seated 50c W-15 Speared Olive, toned PCGS AU55 Cert #404517405.
  • 1880-S Morgan Dollar PCGS MS65 rattler, toned Cert #20994896.
  • 1883-O Morgan Dollar PCGS MS63 rattler, toned Cert# 2115330 value:7.
  • 1896 Morgan Dollar PCGS MS63 toned Cert# 11757818.
  • 1923-D $20 Saint Gaudens gold NGC MS66 Light toning Cert# 266928-001

If there is good news in this situation it is that all of these coins are graded by either PCGS or NGC. That should make it more difficult to simply dump the coins if they have indeed been stolen. Also, many of these coins are quite rare which will make “getting rid of them” a bit more difficult than more common coins. Collectors and dealers are encouraged to keep an eye out locally and online for any of these coins.
