The Numismatic Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Benbrook, Texas Police Department are asking for the public’s help in solving a break in at a local coin and jewelry store. The crime happened at J&J Coins & Jewelry located on Williams Road in Benbrook, Texas.
Access to the shop was gained by pushing a hole in the rear wall of the business. Once inside, alarms were triggered but video footage shows a single suspect moving room-to-room throughout the business. In the end, the suspect took a bucket of junk coins as well as a box of U.S. coins that had been priced and placed in 2×2 cardboard holders.
Each holder contains a price and the dealer’s price code on the front. The coins range in value from $2 to $15 and it is unknown exactly how many were stolen. J&J Coins & Jewelry uses two staples to secure the coin in the holder near the base of each coin. You can see a sample of the orientation of each holder in the image below.
If you have any information on these coins, you can contact Doug Davis at 817-723-7231 or Doug@numismaticcrimes.org with details.
