The United States Mint will open sales of the 2020-W American Eagle uncirculated one ounce gold coin later today. Sales will begin at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific and purchases can only be made on the Mint’s website. This year, the 22-Karat coin is priced at $2,490.
When sales begin, there will be just 7,000 of the coins available and there is a household limit of one coin. As has been the case throughout the history of the American Eagle uncirculated gold coin – and bullion products in general in 2020 – you can expect this coin to sell out quickly.
2020 marks the last year that the current Reverse design of the coin will be available. Next year, along with the American Eagle silver coins, the gold coin will have a new Reverse design will keeping the Augustus Saint-Gaudens walking Liberty design.
Encapsulated in a burgundy-colored presentation case, each coin is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. The uncirculated coin is 22-Karat cold with a composition of 91.67% Gold, 3% Silver, and 5.33% Copper.
With the Reverse design set to change in 2021, demand for this year’s Eagle will be higher than normal. Readers are strongly encouraged to be on the Mint’s site prior to Noon Eastern and attempt refresh the product page in an attempt to get one. This will be the third bullion product to go on sale in as many weeks at the Mint’s site, which has buckled under the pressure of demand the two previous times. Hopefully today will go smoother.
