Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) has announced that it will be offering special labels and designations for the upcoming Type-2 2021-W Proof American Eagle silver coins.
Alongside the 35th anniversary of American Eagle coinage, a new version of the Silver Eagle will be released by the US Mint on July 1, 2021. Featuring an enhanced obverse and redesigned reverse, the updated 2021-W Proof Silver Eagle is one of the most highly anticipated coins in years, a must-have for Silver Eagle collectors at the beginning of a new era in American numismatics.
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is celebrating the debut of the new Silver Eagle by offering a special attribution — Eagle Landing T-2 — that references the new reverse design. A variety of special labels are also available, including the NGC Eagle 35th Anniversary Special Label, the popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases Labels, the NGC West Point Mint Gold Star Label and more.
The obverse of the new 2021 Proof Silver Eagle will continue to feature the iconic Walking Liberty figure, but with the use of modern technology, the image will more closely adhere to Adolf A. Weinman’s original rendition. Weinman’s traditional artist mark — an “A” nestled into a “W” — has been added above Liberty’s right foot.
The new reverse design features a striking and realistic depiction of a bald eagle preparing to land with an oak branch in its talons. It was engraved by acclaimed medallic artist Michael Gaudioso, who signs certification labels exclusively for NGC. (2021-W Proof Silver Eagles certified with the NGC Michael Gaudioso Siganture Labels will be made available through select retailers.) In addition to the new reverse, an added security feature is a variation in the coin’s reeded edge.
Since 1987, NGC has certified more than 11 million Silver Eagles — far exceeding any other coin grading service. With the release of the new 2021 Silver Eagles, NGC looks forward to introducing even more ways to enhance these popular coins.
