The silver American Eagle Uncirculated coin that goes on sale today will feature the new-for-2021 Reverse design, referred to as the Type-2. It is a significant departure from the original design used since 1986 up until the early part of this year. It also brings a wide range of security enhancements, some of which the Mint has disclosed. The obverse (heads) features a refreshed depiction of Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left.
This release is the penultimate release for the silver American Eagle in 2021. The two-coin Reverse Proof set featuring the Type-1 and Type-2 reverse are all that remain. Those sets will be going on sale starting September 13th.
