The United States Mint will begin sales of the 2022 First Amendment American Eagle Platinum Proof coin starting next week. The coin, the second in the First Amendment series, honors the Freedom of Speech granted to all United States citizens as part of the United States Constitution.
The Eagle platinum proof is a 99.95% pure platinum coin that will be available directly from the Mint starting March 3rd. There will only be 15,000 of the coins produced. Pricing has not been established yet and will be available on release day.
For those interested, the first coin in the First Amendment series is still available on the Mint’s site.
The obverse design depicts a branch from a juvenile oak tree framed with the inscription “WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIBERTY BLOSSOMS.” Additional inscriptions are “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “2022.” It was designed by Artistic Infusion Program Designer Donna Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna.
The First Amendment series of platinum American Eagles will continue through 2025 with each year honoring one of the five freedoms granted to Americans in the Constitution of the United States.
- 2021 – Freedom of Religion
- 2022 – Freedom of Speech
- 2023 – Freedom of the Press
- 2024 – Right to Assemble
- 2025 – Right to Petition
While the production limit is low on this series of coins, it is unlikely that they will sell out quickly. For many, the price of the coin is prohibitive and that is reflected in the fact that the 2021 coin in the series remains available from the Mint.
