This is the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) grading report for the week of March 2, 2022. The purpose of this report is to inform readers of USCoinNews the estimated time that the Florida-based grading company is taking to grade coins submitted either directly or through an authorized dealer. The goal of the report is to provide realistic expectations on how long it will take for you to get your coins back from NGC. It is not aimed at being a critique or judgment on the company.
According to the NGC website, the company is now opening packages and submissions for the week of February 7, 2022. Once the packages are opened, it takes on average another 1 week before coins are graded and returned. That means the average ship-to-return is approximately 5 weeks. If you are not an NGC member and submitting your coins through an authorized dealer, that could add another week or two to the process. This continues the trend over the past few weeks of the overall grading time being reduced. In January, it was approximately 8 weeks before packages were opened. It is now down to 4 weeks.
NGC, like PCGS and other grading companies, have seen a significant increase in the number of submissions in the last two years. This has in large part been driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and the addition of rare coins and bullion to investment portfolios. Couple this will intermittent lockdowns at the beginning of the pandemic, it has had a knock-on effect for the grading companies to catch up.
