The United States Mint has released its Circulating Coin Production Report for October 2022, showing that across the nation’s Mint facilities that 1.177 billion coins were produced for circulation. October 2022 marked the first month in the past three that coinage production increased month-over-month. October’s production total was the highest since May 2022. Indeed, all circulation coin dominations saw production increases in October over those in September.
The Lincoln Cent saw a significant increase in production in October, up from 362.6 million in September to 458 million. Breaking down the production figure, the Mint reported 231.2 million Cents were minted in Denver, with the remaining 226.8 million produced in Philadelphia. For 2022, the Mint has now produced 5.282 billion Lincoln Cents for circulation.
The increase in production of the Jefferson Nickel was smaller than that of the Lincoln Cent, but an increase nevertheless. 146.88 million Nickels were produced in October, 81.84 million in Denver, and the remaining 65.04 million in Denver. In September, the Mint produced 130.32 million Nickels for circulation. For the year, the Mint now reports that 1.336 billion Nickels have been minted.
Turning to the Roosevelt Dime, it also saw a modest increase in production compared to the previous month. All-in, the Mint produced 276.5 million Dimes for circulation, a slight increase over the 246 million made in September. Breaking the production figure down, the Mint produced 161.5 million ten-cent pieces in Denver and 115 million in Philadelphia. That puts total production for 2022 at 2.604 billion Dimes.
The final circulating coin with reported production in October was the Washington Quarter. The Mint does not break down which of the five different circulating Quarters were produced but instead gives a total output of 253.4 million for the month. One hundred twenty-nine million of those Quarters were produced in Denver, with the remaining 124.4 million in Philadelphia. This production figure represents a moderate increase over the 201.8 million produced in September and puts total production at 2.1746 billion for 2022.
With the October 2022 production figures considered, the Mint has now produced 11,867,880,000 coins for circulation. This total production is down slightly from the 12,435,400,000 coins that the Mint had produced by the end of October last year.
