Today at Noon Eastern, the United States Mint will open sales of the 2023-W American Eagle gold uncirculated coin. The one-ounce gold coin is priced at $2,820, with only 10,000 of the coins available. The Mint has set a household limit of 3 coins.
The obverse (heads) design features a “refreshed” version of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The Reverse design was designed by Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris. The coin features the Type-2 Reverse, introduced in 2021.
With the Type-2 designs, the Mint has taken time to make minor updates and security updates to the Obverse of the gold and silver coins. You can get more details about these security features here.
Despite the increase in price over the 2022 gold uncirculated Eagle, sales this year are expected to be strong. Readers who are interested in adding this coin to their collection are encouraged to be on the Mint’s site today at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific to ensure you are in the waiting room to get one. Unlike the silver American Eagles, the Mint does not offer a subscription for the gold Eagles.
Still available as of Monday, June 5, 2023 it seems.
