The United States Mint has released its Circulating Coin Production Report for April 2023, showing that 1.25 billion coins were produced for circulation across the nation’s Mint facilities. Across the various denominations, production was close to March 2023 figures, with rises and falls in production being minimal.
According to the Mint, 481.6 million Lincoln Cents were minted in April 2023. This is up slightly from the 400.4 million minted in March and puts total Lincoln Cent production for the year at 1.794 billion Cents. Breaking down the production figures, the Mint reported that 240.8 million Cents were minted in the Denver and Philadelphia facilities.
For the Jefferson Nickel, the Mint reported that 154.32 million Five-Cent pieces were minted in April 2023. 77.28 Million Nickels were minted in Denver, with the remaining 77.04 million coming from the Philadelphia Mint. The total production for April was down slightly from the 155.04 million minted in March. For 2023, the Mint has now produced 590.64 million Jefferson Nickels for circulation.
Turning to the Roosevelt Dime, the Mint reported that 331.5 million Dimes were minted in March. Of that, 175 million were minted in Denver and 156.5 million in Philadelphia. The April production total was down from the 346.5 million Dimes the Mint pressed in March. With the April figured considered, the Mint has now minted 1.263 billion Dimes this year.
280.4 million Washington Quarters were minted in April, according to the Mints production report. The Mint does not break down which of the various quarter designs made up the total production figure. Of that total, 142 million were minted in Denver and 138.4 million in Philadelphia. Month-over-month production dropped slightly from the 283.8 million Quarters minted in March, with total 2023 Quarter production now at 1.033 billion pieces.
Returning to production in April was the Kennedy Half Dollar. According to the Mint’s report, 2.5 million pieces were minted in the month, putting total production for the year at 9.1 million.
In 2023, the Mint has now minted 4,692,880,000 coins for circulation. Compared to production figures through March 2022, overall coinage production is down. Through March 2022, the Mint had produced 5,241,420,000 coins for circulation.
