The United States Mint will open the Alabama American Innovation Dollar sales next week. The dollar coin, the second in the American Innovation Dollar series for 2024, will be available at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific on Monday, April 8, 2024. As has been the case with previous American Innovation Dollar releases, the Alabama coin has household purchase and production limits.
The American Innovation Dollar coin came about through legislation passed in 2018 and is set to run through 2032. There will be 57 coins released in the program, with the first one released on December 14, 2018. However, that coin was an introductory coin to show the coin off to the public and was never released for circulation. So far, the Mint has released 22 of the planned 57 coins. Collectors can buy the coins directly from the Mint in the form of bags, rolls, and annual Proof and Reverse Proof sets.
You can read about the history of the American Innovation Dollar in this Coin History article.
The Alabama American Innovation Dollar honors the state’s contributions to the Saturn V launch vehicle. The Saturn V was the launch vehicle for the Apollo moon missions in the 1960s and 70s. The Reverse of the coin depicts the launch of a Saturn V vehicle with the Moon in the background, while the Obverse keeps the traditional design of the Statue of Liberty.
As with previous American Innovation Dollar releases, there will be four products available for purchase.
- 25-Coin Roll (Philadelphia) – $34.50
- 25-Coin Roll (Denver) – $34.50
- 100-Coin Bag (Philadelphia) – $117.50
- 100-Coin Bag (Denver) – $117.50
The Mint offers a Subscription Program for the American Innovation Dollar products, and readers interested in collecting the coins should consider joining. This assures you of receiving the roll(s) or bag(s) that you wish to collect without having to worry about trying to purchase them on release day.
