The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) has released the design candidate images for the upcoming Joseph R. Biden Jr. Presidential Medal. The design was released last week during a regularly scheduled CCAC meeting. The President Biden medal will be released later this year, regardless of the results of the 2024 Presidential Election.
The Presidential Medal series has been a regular Mint production for several years. The medal series commemorates each United States President – and each term they serve – with two bronze medals: 1-5/16th inch medal and a larger 3-inch medal. In 2018, a silver Presidential Medal was added to production which currently has yielded seven medals starting with the early Presidents of the United States. The President Biden release will be the latest in the series.
Unlike circulating coinage and other commemoratives, which require a President to be out of office for a given period of time or after their death, the Presidential Medals are done in near real-time to that President serving. Currently, the last medal produced in the series was for the first term of the 45th President, Donald Trump. You can find all the Presidential Medals here on the Mint’s website.
The medal for President Trump will be released in 2021, regardless of the outcome if the United States elections in November of this year.
