The United States Mint will begin sales of the latest American Women Quarter release later today. The Quarter honoring Dr. Mary Edwards Walker will be available starting at noon Eastern at 9:00 AM Pacific. The Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Quarter will be the second in the American Women Quarter program released this year and the thirteenth overall in the series.
Dr. Mary Edwards Walker was a Civil War surgeon, and women’s rights and dress-reform advocate. Walker relentlessly pursued her desire to serve as a surgeon during the Civil War and in 1863 she became the first woman U.S. Army surgeon as a “Contract Acting Assistant Surgeon (civilian).” To date, Walker is the only woman to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
Four products will be available from the Mint for the Walker Quarter:
- 100-Coin Bag (Philadelphia) – $45.00
- 100-Coin Bag (Denver) – $45.00
- 2-Roll 40-Coin Per Roll Set (Philadelphia & Denver) – $40.00
- 3-Roll 40-Coin Per Roll Set (Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco) – $60.00
Note that on the 3-roll set, the San Francisco roll contains uncirculated circulation-quality coins, not proofs.
Production and household limits are in place for purchasing these products from the Mint. They are expected to be quick sellouts. The Mint offers a subscription program for the American Women Quarter program, which is the quickest and surest way to get the products you want for your collection.
