The United States Mint has released the 2018-S Reverse Proof of the first American Innovation Dollar. The coin comes in a four-panel holder and is comfortably priced at $9.95. There is no household limit on the number that can be bought. However, production is limited to just 75,000 coins. At the time of this article’s posting, the coin was listed as “unavailable”. That likely means all of them have been sold.
The new American Innovation Dollar coin came about through legislation passed in 2018 and is set to run through the year 2032. In all, there will be 57 coins released in the program with the first one released on December 14, 2018. That coin, however, was an introductory coin fundamentally to show the coin off to the public and was never released for circulation. It is this first coin that the Mint has now released in Reverse Proof. That coin featured the Statue of Liberty on the Obverse while highlighting the signing of the first American patent, signed into law by George Washington, on the Reverse.

While the coin is listed as unavailable, you can still sign up to be reminded if they do become available again. Often with a limited production coin, the mint will stop sales when they are close to the production limit to assure they do not oversell. If you do get a notice through the remind me function, best hit the Mint’s site immediately for a shot at getting one.
