Just a few days after the latest America the Beautiful Quarter release for American Samoa National Park, the United States Mint will open up sales of the 5-ounce silver coin as part of the program. The 99.9% pure silver bullion coin will be priced at $178.25 and you will be to buy it directly from the Mint’s website. Sales will begin promptly at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific.
For those that are new to collecting, these 5-ounce coins are identical to the America the Beautiful Quarter it represents on the Obverse (Heads) and Reverse (Tails). Other than the obvious size difference, these silver coins have a smooth edge versus the reed edge of the Quarter itself.
When the coin is shipped to you, it will come in a presentation case along with a Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Mint.
The reverse (tails) design depicts a Samoan fruit bat mother hanging in a tree with her pup. The image evokes the remarkable care and energy this species puts into its offspring. The design is intended to promote awareness to the species’ threatened status resulting from habitat loss and commercial hunting. The National Park of American Samoa is the only park in the U.S. national park system the Samoan fruit bat calls home. Inscriptions are “NATIONAL PARK,” “AMERICAN SAMOA,” “2020,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Mintage of these silver coins are limited to 20,000. There is, however, no household limit. That means when they do go on sale later today, you can purchase as many of them as you desire.
