Here at USCoinNews, I focus on United States coinage. The hint, as they say, is in the name. But every once in a while another country’s coinage is just to good not to share and the Royal Canadian Mint last week announced a stunner. The Mint to our Canadian friends will be producing, on demand, a 2020 $100,000 Gold Maple Leaf coin in 99.9999% pure gold. The coin weighs an incredible 22 pounds (that’s 10 kilograms in new money).
The 99.999% pure 10-Kilogram Gold Maple Leaf meticulously captures every detail of the 1 oz. gold bullion coin it celebrates. Its maple leaf-shaped security mark, the dazzling array of radial lines filling the reverse and obverse of the coin, and the trademark Walter Ott-designed sugar maple leaf shining from the coin’s centre in matte proof finish are magnified in stunning scale. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II created by portrait artist Susanna Blunt in 2003.Royal Canadian Mint Press Release
While the coin will be made on demand, there will be no more than 10 of them produced in total. That means if you want to ante up and get one, you are guaranteed a rarity.
