The United States Mint has released its weekly sales report today. The report covers the 7-day period ending July 5, 2020. As has been the case throughout much of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, annual sets from the Mint remain strong sellers, taking four of the top ten places this week. However, there was a new top seller for this week.
The American the Beautiful 3-Coins set for Weir Farm, which debuted last week, was the top seller on the report. 10,802 of the sets were sold during the week, making it easily the best selling item for the Mint. It is not uncommon for new products to make it to the top ten or the number one spot on debut, especially popular and low cost items like this 3-coin set.
Pushed down to the second position was the 2020 Proof Set. Another 6,296 of the sets were sold last week, pushing its total sales to over 300,000 for the year (302,402). This was followed by the 2020 Silver Proof Set in third with 3,894 sets sold last week. That pushes the Silver Proof Set’s total sales to 229,144.
The Basketball Hall of Fame products continue to remain strong sellers for the Mint. These took four of the top ten positions last week, led by the Silver Proof Curved Coin in fourth. 3,149 of those commemoratives were sold last week, pushing the total sales up to 57,635 since its release in June. With the special introductory pricing for this series of commemoratives ending on July 6, next week’s report will be interesting to see what, if any, drop in sales it sees.
