The United States Mint has released their weekly sales report for the week ending August 16, 2020. The report shows that one again, annual sets and bullion products remain strong sellers for the Mint as has been the case throughout much of 2020. Bullion sales in particular have spiked in recent weeks as collectors and investors purchase these products for portfolio diversification as the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Retaking the top selling spot for the week was the 2020 Proof Set. 4,218 of the annual set were sold in the last week, pushing its total sales for the year to 330,567. It was followed closely by the 2020-W American Eagle Silver Proof 1-Ounce bullion coin. 3,677 coins were sold for the week ending August 16, 2020, pushing its sales total to 327,913 for the year.
The third top selling items was another annual set, the 2020 Silver Proof Set. 3,567 of the sets were purchased last week. That puts the sets total sales to just over 250,00 for all of 2020 (253,119). Meanwhile, the 2020-W American Eagle Silver Uncirculated 1-Ounce bullion coin was just behind the Silver Proof Set in fourth with 3,540 coins sold last week. That puts the total sales for the uncirculated specimen at 119,604 for the year.
Making a return appearance to the top ten selling products for the Mint is the 2020 American Eagle Gold Proof 4-coin set. An impressive 1,331 of these sets were sold last week, putting its total sales for the year at 7,726 sets sold. This proves to be another proof point for the demand for precious metal currently in the United States and indeed the world. A further proof point can be found in the top ten list with the 2019 American Liberty Silver Medal 2.5-ounce medal. 568 of these medals were sold last week, making it the eighth best seller for the week.
