Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, NGC, has announced that it will be offering special labels and designations for the upcoming 2021-W American Eagle silver Proof coin. The limited availability coin will be available from the United States Mint on February 11, 2021. NGC will be offering a special label honoring the 35th anniversary of the original design of the coin as well as labels for Early Release and for the Congratulations Set.
To distinguish 2021 American Silver and Gold Eagles, NGC is offering a special 35th anniversary label for all submissions. Special submission instructions must be followed. The Congratulations Set must be submitted in the sealed original Mint shipping box to receive the designation. See the “Submission Instructions” section of this article.
On February 11, 2021, the US Mint is releasing the 2021-W Proof Silver Eagle, which is expected to be the last Proof American Silver Eagle to feature the coin’s original heraldic eagle reverse design. The 2021-W Proof Silver Eagles will be available individually and as part of the 2021 Congratulations Set.
NGC is celebrating the highly anticipated 2021 American Silver and Gold Eagles, including the 2021-W Proof Silver Eagle, by offering the NGC Eagle 35th Anniversary Special Label for free to all submitters. Other popular NGC special labels, including the West Point Mint Gold Star Label, Early Releases Label and First Releases Label are also available.
NGC-certified 2021-W Proof Silver Eagles from the February release will be given a special attribution — Heraldic Eagle T-1 — to indicate that they feature the original reverse. Coins from the Congratulations Set qualify for a “Congratulations Set” attribution as well. The Early Releases and First Releases designations are available for coins received by NGC within the first 30 days of release.
Later in 2021, Silver Eagles with the new reverse design will be released, marking the end of one numismatic era and the beginning of another. The obverse featuring Adolph A. Weinman’s renowned “Walking Liberty” design will carry forward.

Submission Instructions
- Submit the coins under the Modern grading tier or higher.
- If you are submitting the 2021-W Proof Silver Eagle in the Congratulations Set packaging, the coin must remain sealed in the original Mint shipping box. The set designation is available to all submitters for no additional fee.
- If you would like Mint packaging returned, select “Return Mint Packaging” on the NGC Submission Form. The fee is $5, plus the cost of shipping.

Bulk submissions
NGC’s First Day of Issue designation and labels are available for select bulk submissions only. To qualify for First Day of Issue, coins must be purchased within one day of the first day that a mint makes a new coin issue available for sale and must be received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository within one week of the release date. NGC will require that the submitter provide adequate evidence (including purchase receipts) to demonstrate the date when the coins were purchased.
