The following is a Press Release from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) announcing the availability of special labels and designations for the 2021-W American Eagle Gold Proof coins. The proof coins were released yesterday by the United States Mint and when submitted to NGC for grading & certification, submitters can request special labels and/or designations for their submissions.
On March 11, 2021, the US Mint is releasing the eagerly awaited 2021-W Family of Eagles Proof Gold Eagles: a $5 tenth-ounce coin, a $10 quarter-ounce coin, a $25 half-ounce coin and a $50 one-ounce coin, all struck at the West Point Mint. The coins have limited mintages and will be offered individually and as a four-coin set. After 35 years, these are expected to be the last Proof American Gold Eagles that will feature the Family of Eagles design on their reverse.
In honor of the milestone anniversary, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) will encapsulate these coins with the NGC Eagle 35th Anniversary Label for no additional fee. Other popular labels are also available, including the NGC West Point Mint Gold Star Label and the NGC Early Releases and Firsts Releases designations and labels. The coins will receive the “Family of Eagles T-1” designation to indicate the original reverse design.
Launched in 1986 with both gold and silver issues, the popular American Eagle series remains the flagship bullion coins of the United States. The gold coins’ obverse features a version of Lady Liberty facing forward with a torch and olive branch that pays tribute to the iconic Double Eagle design by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
On the reverse, an eagle is shown flying with an olive branch in its talons toward its family, nestled together on a branch. Starting later this year, Gold Eagles will feature a new reverse design, making this a historic moment in numismatics.
NGC is the definitive leader in American Eagle certification, with more than 1.6 million Gold Eagles and more than 11 million Silver Eagles graded — far exceeding any other third-party grading service. Learn more about NGC’s certification options for all the 2021 American Eagles here.
