The United States Mint has published its weekly numismatic product sales report for the week ending Sunday, March 21, 2021. With no new product releases in the reporting period, sales were slow but better than most weeks without a new product release. Overall the Mint sold 25,322 numismatic products for the week.
The strong top selling product for the previous week was the 2021 Proof Set. Nearly 9,000 of the sets were sold (8,993) in the past week, pushing total sales to 206,542. To put this into perspective, the total sales of the 2021 Proof Set are now 45% of the total sales of the 2020 release which sold a total of 464,086. At its current sales pace, the 2021 set should top 2020 sales in July.
A surprise item on the report this week was the 2021 Congratulations Set with the Type-1 Reverse of the American Eagle silver proof. 4,384 of the sets were sold last week, pushing sales totals to just shy of 40,000 (39,997). The Congratulations Set has been unavailable for several weeks now but briefly returned last week. As of this post, the set has gone back into being unavailable for purchase.
After being on pre-order since January, the 20201 Christa McAuliffe proof commemorative coin enjoyed a resurgence in sales last week. 1,948 of the coins were sold, making it the third best seller for the week and which brings its sales total to to 27,122 since its release. The commemorative was followed closely in sales by the 2019 American Innovation Dollar Proof Set which saw 1,216 sets sold last week. Meanwhile the 2020 American Innovation Dollar Proof Set rounded out the top five selling items with 921 sets sold for the week.
