The United States Mint is set to begin sales of the final five ounce American the Beautiful silver coin next week. The 2021 Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site silver coin will go on sale at Noon Eastern on April 8, 2021. The coin will be available directly from the United States Mint’s website and is priced at $229.00. The Mint will only be producing 20,000 of the coins but there is no household limit on the number that can be purchased when they go on sale.
With the sale of this five ounce coin, the Mint will have concluded it’s sales of all of the America the Beautiful quarter and silver coins for the series. The 2021 Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site was the last location represented in the series and the only one set to be released this year. The remaining 2021 quarters will have the new “Washington Crossing the Delaware” Reverse.
The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African-American military pilots (fighter and bomber) and airmen who fought in World War II. They formed the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Forces. The name also applies to the navigators, bombardiers, mechanics, instructors, crew chiefs, nurses, cooks and other support personnel.Wikipedia
Due to bullion costs and shortages, there had been some speculation that the Mint would delay the release of this five ounce silver coin. That was the case for the United States Air Force medal earlier this year and that product has yet to have an official release date provided. However, in the case of the Tuskegee Airmen five ounce coin, it appears that everything is on schedule. According to the product page for the coin, sales are set to start on time and there is no indication of any delay.
