The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report through to today, April 26, 2021. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week. Overall, it was an exceptionally slow sales week, with just 12,000 bullion coins sold in the past week. For the year, the United States Mint has now sold 13,897,000 bullion coins.
Of the 12,000 coins sold last week, 11,500 of them were the American Eagle gold one ounce bullion coin. Those sales now put the total sales of the one ounce gold eagle at just shy of four hundred thousand at 398,500. The only other coin that was sold this last week was the American Buffalo one ounce bullion coin. 500 of these coins were sold last week, putting its sales total at 120,000 for 2021.
As for why sales were so slow, there could be a variety of reasons. First, Authorized Purchasers may have enough stock on hand to deal with current customer demand for bullion coins. Further, the Mint may well not have coins available, especially the American Eagle series, right now. Remember that the American Eagle silver and gold coins are going to have a new Reverse this year and the Mint could simply be tooling up for that change and not producing much bullion for purchase over the next several weeks.
