Numismatic Guarantee Corporation (NGC) has announced an update of its grading requirements for tokens and medals. Effective May 13, 2021, issues before 1990 will nee to be submitted under the Economy grading tier or higher. Any items issued 1990 to today can be submitted under the Modern grading tier.
The change in policy is an effort to improve customer experience but also turnaround times on grading. NGC, like other grading services, have been running multiple weeks on grading of coins, bills, tokens, & medals throughout much of 2020 and into this year. Most collectors who are waiting for numismatic items to be grading are waiting upwards of three weeks for coins to be returned once submitted. The change comes as the grading company has been streamlining older process and eliminating some, all in the effort of improving their customer experience.
To provide the best customer experience, including the fastest possible turnaround times, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) has updated its grading tier requirements for tokens and medals.
Effective May 13, 2021, tokens and medals issued before 1990 must be submitted under the Economy grading tier or higher. Tokens and medals issued 1990 to present can be submitted under the Modern grading tier or higher.
Any tokens or medals issued 1965 to present (no patterns, die trials, etc.) will be accepted in the Modern tier if the submission is delivered prior to May 13, 2021. (The submission must also fall within the maximum value requirement.)
New submission forms and price sheets will be available for download on the NGC website on May 13, 2021. If you have any questions, please contact NGC Customer Service.
