The Numismatic Crime Information Center (NCIC) is asking for the public’s help in locating a stolen or missing United States Postal Service (USPS) on its way from Florida to Indiana. The package contained three 19th century United States coins. The package made its way from Florida to Atlanta, Georgia which is where the last scan of the package occurred.
A total of three coins were in the package, all certified by NGC.
- 1815/2 Capped Bust Half Dollar NGC AU details, Cleaned NGC Cert#5943791-001
- 1878 Seated Half Dollar, NGC Proof 61 Cert# 5944009-001
- 1871 Seated Quarter Dollar, NGC Proof Details, Cleaned (NGC Cert# 5944009-002
Collectors and dealers are asked to be on the look out for these coins as, if they were stolen, the thief could try to get rid of them quickly at a price “too good to be true”. Dealers, coin shop owners, and pawn shop owners in particular are encouraged to be on the look out for one of these rare coins coming into their shop. The fact that these coins were graded by NGC should make it easier to locate them should a sale attempt happen.
Collectors and dealers have been instrumental in located several stolen packages this year, with dozens of coins recovered. Most of the time, these recoveries happen because collectors and dealers are on the look out for them.
