NGC Special Labels and Designations for the New 2021-W Proof Gold Eagles

The following is a Press Release from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) announcing they will be offering NGC special labels for the upcoming 2021-W American Eagle gold proof coins. These coins are set for release on July 29, 2021 by the United States Mint.

NGC Special labels are a practice the grading company has had for many years, offering customers Early Release and First Release labeling options for their Eagles submitted for grading.

The 2021-W Proof Gold Eagles, with enhanced obverse and new reverse designs, are being released soon, and NGC is offering special labels, designations and a corresponding attribution. Special submission instructions must be followed. See the “Submission Instructions” section of this article.

The next American Eagle releases that celebrate  the beloved series’ 35th anniversary are the 2021-W Proof Gold Eagles, featuring an enhanced obverse and new reverse design. On July 29, 2021, the $5, $10, $25 and $50 Proof Gold Eagles, struck at the West Point Mint, will go on sale individually and as a four-coin set. With limited mintages, American Gold Eagle collectors are waiting with great anticipation to claim their coins.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is celebrating the first flight of the new Gold Eagles with a special attribution — Eagle Portrait T-2 — and a variety of special labels, including the NGC Eagle 35th Anniversary Label (for no additional fee), the West Point Mint Gold Star Label and the popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases Labels. The NGC Early Releases and First Releases designations are also available.

The obverse of the 2021-W Gold Eagles has received numerous enhancements with the goal of more closely reflecting Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ original depiction of Liberty. For example, the Capitol  Building, the shape of the rays, the stars, the olive branch and the torch have all been restored based on the original cast.

The new reverse design features a majestic portrait of an eagle in amazing detail. It was created by artist Jennie Norris, who signs certification labels exclusively for NGC. (The NGC Jennie Norris Signature Label is available for NGC-certified 2021 T-2 Gold Eagles through select retailers.) Another updated feature is a distinct variation to the coin’s reeded edge to bolster anti-counterfeiting measures.

NGC is the industry leader in the certification of American Eagles, with more than 1.6 million Gold Eagles graded since 1987. With the release of the new American Eagles, NGC looks forward to introducing even more ways to enhance these iconic coins.
