The United States Mint will begin sales of the 2021-W American Eagle Palladium Proof starting next week. Sales will begin at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific on September 2, 2021. There will be just 12,000 of these premium precious medal coins produced, with a household limit of one coin and they are expected to have high sales initially although a sell out is hard to predict. The 2019 and 2020 American Eagle Palladium coins remain available on the Mint’s site.
This year, the Eagle Palladium Proof is priced at $3,350, the same price it has had the last two years.
Unlike the gold and silver American Eagle coins, the Palladium Eagle did not receive any design changes. The coin is identical to last year and indeed, it is the same as it has been since its release five years ago. Unlike last year when only an Uncirculated version of the coin was made, this year, only a proof version will be produced.
The Obverse of the coin features the Winged Liberty Head (or Mercury) Dime design of Adolph A. Weinman, albeit in high-relief. The Reverse features a high-relief version of the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal. It was also designed by Weinman. Those two designs have been some of the most popular in the history of the United States Mint which has added to the popularity of this proof coin.
When purchased, it will come in a gray leatherette presentation case with satin lining. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
