The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic product sales report for the week ending September 12, 2021. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. The report shows that the Mint sold 194,559 products last week, the vast majority of that coming in the form of the Mint’s latest product release.
For the year, the United States Mint has now sold 9,991,533 numismatic products.
The top selling product for the United States Mint last week was its newest product that was released last week. The 2021-W American Eagle Silver Uncirculated (Type-2) one ounce coin took top sales honors for the week. The Mint reported that 174,032 of the 175,000 coins have now been sold. As is often the case, the coin now shows as being unavailable on the Mint’s site. This is likely due to the Mint doing behind-the-scenes reconciliation of sales to verify indeed all coins have been sold. Meanwhile, the 2021-W American Eagle Silver Proof (Type-2) also effectively depleted its inventory and then some. The Mint reported 13,921 of these coins were sold last week. That puts total sales at a reported 324,402, well above the 300,000 that the Mint advertised as being produced. This could be a situation where the Mint notifies some late buyers that their orders cannot be fulfilled, which has happened in the past.
The third top seller for the Mint last week was the 2021 Proof Set. Another 2,810 sets were sold in the week, pushing the total sales for 2021 to 345,0005. Coming in forth on the sales list was the 2021 Silver Proof set with another 1,412 sets sold. Both of these annual sets are on pace to outsell their 2020 counterparts.
Rounding out the top five in sales was the United States Coast Guard 2.5 ounce silver medal. 336 medals were sold last week, putting total sales at 9,496 – very close to the 10,000 medal production limit the Mint set for it. As of this post, the medal is still show as available on the Mint’s site.
