The final American Eagle of 2021 is set to go on sale next week on October 7th. The 2021-W American Eagle gold (Type-2) one ounce Uncirculated coin will go on sale at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific and will be available directly from the United States Mint’s website. Only 9,100 of the coins will be available on October 7th and there is a household limit of one coin. A price for the coin has not been announced yet but it is expected to sell quickly.
As readers know, the Mint has announced new Reverse designs for both the gold and silver American Eagle last year. For the gold American Eagles, the new Reverse design was on the one-ounce coin as well as the fractional coins the Mint offered in July. That same Type-2 design will be used for this one ounce uncirculated variety.
The 2021 American Eagle gold Reverse design was designed by Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris. The Reverse will be scuttled by Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon.
The focus with the new Type-2 coins has been on the new Reverse designs but the Mint has taken time to make minor updates and security updates to the Obverse of the gold and silver coins. When the new designs were announced last year, the Mint made mention of some new security features. You can get more details about these security features here.
