United States Mint Releases Line Art of 2022 American Innovation Dollar Coins

The United States Mint has released the line art for the 2022 American Innovation Dollar coins. Four coins in the series are set to be released in 2022 honoring Kentucky, Tennessee, Vermont, and Rhode Island. Introduced in 2018, the American Innovation Dollar will consist of 57 coins. From 2019 through to 2032, four new coins will be release each year. According to the Mint, these coins will be “celebrating innovations and innovators” from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia and five United States Territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The Obverse for all of these coins will remain the same as the 2018 coins, depicting the Statue of Liberty. The Reverse of each coin will change based on the state or territory it is released for and the innovation it is celebrating.

Here are the details of each of the 2022 American Innovation Dollar coins. As a reminder, all of the coins will have the same common Obverse, featuring the Statue of Liberty. The Reverse of each coin will vary to honor the state or territory it features.

American Innovation – Rhode Island

The Rhode Island $1 Coin design depicts Nathanael Herreshoff’s famous Reliance yacht at full speed in the waters surrounding Rhode Island. The design is bordered by a rope evoking the nautical scene. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “RHODE ISLAND.”

American Innovation – Vermont

The Vermont $1 Coin features a young female snowboarder in the air performing a trick called a “melon grab,” set against a mountainous winter skyline inspired by the landscape of Vermont. The aim of the design is to capture a sense of the energy and exuberance of snowboarding through movement implied by diagonal lines and curved shapes. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “VERMONT.”

American Innovation – Kentucky

The Kentucky $1 Coin pays homage to the home of bluegrass music. This design features a banjo, an important bluegrass instrument, tilted to one side, alluding to the rhythm and movement of the music. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “BLUEGRASS,” and “KENTUCKY.”

The Tennessee $1 Coin design depicts a Tennessee farm with newly installed power lines lining the road. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY,” and “TENNESSEE.”
