The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic product sales report for the week ending December 5, 2021. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. The report shows that the Mint sold 17,562 numismatic products in the past week. This is down slightly from the previous week’s report. For the year, the Mint has now sold 10,718,853 products.
As has been the case for the past several weeks – with no new products released by the Mint – annual products have dominated sales once again this week. Eight of the top ten products sold this week are coin sets or individual coins that the Mint releases each year. Taking the top selling spot for the third consecutive week is the 2021 Proof Set. The Mint report an additional 10,992 sets were sold in the last week. That puts the set’s total sales for the year at 458,635. With another week of 10,000-plus in sales, the 2021 Proof Set will surpass the 2020 Proof Set sales next week.
The second top seller for the Mint last week was the premium annual proof set, the 2021 Silver Proof Set. 3,483 of the sets were reported as being sold in the past week, pushing its sales total for the year to 263,794. Given the high price of this year’s set, it was unclear if the set would sell well. It has and it is possible that it will surpass last year’s sales total of 313,184 before the end of the year.
Continuing its strong sales and a show of its popularity, the 2021 Christa McAuliffe Proof Silver Dollar was the third best sell for the Mint last week. 2,153 of the one ounce silver poof coins were sold last week. That puts total sales for the year at 52,504. The McAuliffe proof silver dollar has been by far the most popular commemorative coin released this year by the United States Mint.
The 2021 American Innovation Dollar Proof Set continued its strong sales this past week. 2,015 of the sets were sold last week, making it the fourth top seller for the Mint.
