The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic sales report for the seven day period ending on Sunday, January 9, 2022. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. In this week’s report, the Mint indicated that 63,832 numismatic products were sold. This is up from the just over 13,000 products sold in last week’s report. This significant jump in sales however is not surprising given that the first releases of the new year are in this week’s report. Indeed, eight of the top ten selling products this week were the various 2022 Negro Leagues Baseball Commemorative products.
Unsurprisingly, the top selling product for the Mint last week was the 2022 Negro League Baseball Proof Silver Dollar with Privy Mark. 19,992 of the 20,000 coins were sold and the Mint currently lists the coin as unavailable on its site. It is likely that all twenty thousand of the coins were sold last week and the Mint is doing internal reconciliation to verify orders.
The second top seller was the 2022 Negro Leagues Baseball Proof Half Dollar. 8,979 of these were reported sold by the Mint last week. It was followed closely by the Proof Silver Dollar in the series with 8,312 coins sold. The fourth top seller was the limited edition Silver Proof Dollar and Jackie Robinson Silver Medal Set. 6,832 of the 15,000 sets were pre-ordered last week and they are listed as still being available to pre-order on the Mint’s site.
Rounding out the top five in sales was the Negro Leagues Baseball Uncirculated Half Dollar with 5,489 coins sold according to the Mint’s report. In looking at the top ten selling products last week, the only two products that were not related to the new commemoratives was the 2021 Uncirculated Coin Set which was eighth top seller with 1,656 sets sold and the 2021 Proof Set with 1,321 sets sold.
